Basics of dog and cat nutrition

The course takes an integrate and holistic approach to wellness, independent view on different feeding types and foods.

Who: the lecturer is Anna Lineva, veterinary nutritionist, DVM, PhD, ECVCN Diplomate (European College of Veterinary and Comparative Nutrition).

The first level of pet nutrition course is intended for pet owners, but also for breeders, handlers and veterinarians starting to learn dog and cat nutrition.

You can start your way to understanding how to feed your pet healthy, how to differentiate between different foods including commercial ones, what to choose and how to use for a homemade diet. We will also do some tests.

 

Program – 1st level

  1. Appropriate foods for dogs and cats – in focus mostly homemade diets. Meat and offal – differences, what else besides meat do you have to put in the bowl.
  2. Inappropriate foods for dogs and cats: toxic, dangerous and useless products for dogs and cats.
  3. Myths and wrong beliefs: some mistaken but very common opinions.
  4. Commercial foods: types and manufacturing processes. How to choose and compare them.
  5. Homemade diets: types and nutrient groups. How to do it balanced and healthy.
  6. BARF: raw diets pros and cons, risk factors and how to minimize them.
  7. Choice of the feeding method: what is better – homemade, commercial or mixed? How to practice an individual approach.
  8. Feeding technique: useful tips how to prepare food for dogs and cats, store and feed it.
  9. Frequently asked questions: requirements, feeding behaviour, some trends in commercial foods, digestion and digestibility, compounds.
  10. What to do if: some challenging situations, numbers and facts about dog and cat nutrition.
